The Information Processing & Management Conference 2026 (IP&MC2026), 30 October-1 November 2026, Wuhan, China, Wuhan, China, will be held under the theme ‘Documents to Dialog and Retrieval to Reasoning: Reimagining the Computational Information Sciences in the Age of AI and Large Language Models’.

Sponsored jointly by the journals Information Processing & Management opens in new tab/window and Data and Information Management opens in new tab/window, this innovative conference acknowledges the decades of foundational breakthroughs, including ranking algorithms, indexing architectures, metadata schemas, transformers, user experience, information governance, and theories of information behavior, while boldly confronting today’s frontier of AI, natural language processing, and human-centered AI.

Large language models, agentic AI, robotics, and other forms of AI are redefining how information is represented, retrieved, synthesized, and acted upon, fundamentally changing the entire lifecycle of data and information. Therefore, researchers and practitioners in our field must ask ourselves: “What does information ‘processing’ and ‘management’ mean when systems no longer just retrieve but infer, collaborate, and create with humans?”

Answering this question is the critical first step in understanding how we can live with, manage, and harness the power of AI for the benefit of humans and organizations, enabling them to face the many planetary challenges.

We invite scholarly contributions that bridge theoretical rigor with empirical execution, honoring the past scientific foundations to avoid retreading old ground while charting a novel, responsible, and human-centered path toward cognitive information systems in the Age of AI.

We encourage submissions that advance the computational foundations of reasoning and dialog systems, as well as those that investigate the profound impacts of AI on information governance, scientific discovery, and human information behavior.

All accepted conference submissions are automatically eligible for submission to the related special issues in Information Processing & Management opens in new tab/window and Data and Information Management opens in new tab/window.

Conference features

The following features are all planned to enhance your experience with the conference and will make IP&MC2026 a vibrant event for networking, learning, and collaboration. IP&MC2026 is an in-person only conference.

  • A unique “conference-to-journal" pathway, where authors of accepted full papers receive feedback at the conference for revisions and subsequent publication in a special issue of either IP&M or DIM.

  • Plenary and keynote presentations, regular papers and poster presentations, and other initiatives and opportunities such as:

    • Meeting the journal Editors-in-Chief workshop

    • Young Scientists Development workshop

    • Industrial exhibits

  • To facilitate feedback to improve the research for journal submission, regular paper presentations will be 30 minutes for presentation and discussion.
