Announcing a new spate of workshops for August!
Hello all. It’s been a busy few months. I’m just now recovering from July and June’s Summer of Ludd, which was an incredibly tremendous success beyond what my wildest expectations could have been. During and after the festival, I met a huge number of new people interested in reclaiming their relationship with technology, and I am extremely excited to see what happens with that energy in the coming months.
In the mean time, I’ve scheduled two Unplatform events for August. Longtime readers know the drill: one IRL, one online.
Online: Unplatform Office Hours (Sunday, August 16 | 6:00 PM EDT)
I’ve scheduled the next Unplatform Office Hours (in which I answer your questions about how to liberate yourself and / or your community from Silicon Valley) for Sunday. July 12th. Come with questions about how to promote events, start independent websites, or find alternatives to Big Tech platforms that have been a thorn in your side. You can RSVP here.
IRL: Unplatform Organizer’s Meetup
You’ve probably heard a ton of people complaining about the role that social media, planned obsolescence, or digital surveillance plays in our lives. You probably haven’t seen nearly as many people doing something about it.
This isn’t a personal failing. It’s a social one. It’s not possible for one person to take on Silicon Valley on their own. It’s a journey that entire communities need to embark on together–and this is exactly what Unplatform is here to help you do.
This organizer’s meetup is tailor-made for people trying to liberate their communities from extractive tech, whether those communities are creative, cultural, or political. We’ll talk about the resources, tools, and organizations that already exist to help you reclaim your collective relationship with technology, and depending on where you’re at, we might help you build some of your own. You can RSVP to the meetup at the link here.
