Karl Albrecht was born on 21 Apr 1904 in Essen. He enlisted in 1923 and was promoted to Oblt. on 1 Apr 1943. He served as Strm on the type IIB boat U-19 from Jan 1936. He served as Strm on the type IIC boat U-62 from Dec 1939 to Jan 1940. He served as Obstrm on the type IIB boat U-9 from Jan to Mar 1940. He served as Obstrm on the U-depot ship Weichsel from Apr to Jun 1940.
Karl Albrecht attended U-boat Training Unit (UAA), Plön from Jun to Jul 1940. He served as platoon commander with 1 ULD from July to Oct 1941. Then went through U-boat Familiarization (Baubelehrung) until Nov 1941. He served as Obstrm on U-214 from Nov 1941 until Aug 1942. He then did another U-boat Familiarization (Baubelehrung) program and other courses from Sept 1942 to June 1943 (U-boat commanders's torpedo course 46).
He commissioned the new type VIIF, a rare torpedo transport boat, on 19 June 1943. Karl Albrecht took the boat on its first patrol, to the Far East to supply the Monsun boats in Indian Ocean. The boat was sunk with all hands on 30 September 1944 in the Atlantic south-west of the Cape Verde Islands, in position 11.36N, 34.44W, by depth charges from the US destroyer escort USS Fessenden.
