Joachim-Werner Bach was born on 7 Aug 1918 in Dresden, entering the navy with Crew 1937b. He achieved the rank of Oblt. on 1 Jun 1943.

Joachim-Werner Bach served as Watch Officer (WO) with the 1st Torpedo-Boat Flotilla from Dec 1939 to Mar 1941, then as Watch Officer (WO) with the 2nd Torpedo-Boat Flotilla from Apr to Aug 1941. He then became Platoon Leader 1/Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO) Training Division from Aug 1941 to Apr 1942. Joachim-Werner Bach subsequently served as Watch Officer (WO) on the heavy cruiser Admiral Scheer from Apr to Jul 1942, and as Watch Officer (WO) on the destroyer Z 15 Erich Steinbrinck from Jul 1942 to Sep 1943.

Joachim-Werner Bach commenced U-boat training in Sep 1943, continuing until Jan 1944. He underwent U-boat Commander's under instruction from Feb to Jun 1944, followed by U-boat Commander's Torpedo Course 65. Joachim-Werner Bach then completed U-boat Familiarization (Baubelehrung) at the 1st U-boat Training Unit (1 UAA) from Aug to Sep 1944.

He commissioned the new type VIIC/41 boat U-1110 on 24 Sep 1944. The boat was surrendered on 14 May 1945 at List, Sylt, Germany (Waller & Niestlé, 2010).
