Eduard Aust was born on 11 Aug 1920 in Stolp, Pomerania. He joined the Kriegsmarine as part of Crew 1939. He was promoted to Oblt. on 1 Oct 1943.

Eduard Aust served as First Watch Officer on the type VIIC boat U-613 from Mar 1942 to Mar 1943. He then underwent U-boat commander's training with the 24th Flotilla from Apr to Jun 1943.

He commanded the type VIIA boat U-34 from 12 Jun 1943. The boat U-34 was lost on 5 Aug 1943 in the Baltic Sea at Memel, after a collision with the U-boat tender Lech, 4 dead and 39 survivors. Aust then commanded the type VIIA boat U-29 from 21 Aug to 2 Nov 1943. Eduard Aust then commanded the type VIIC boat U-922 from 3 Nov 1943 to 20 Oct 1944.

On 21 Oct 1944 he took command of the type VIIC boat U-679. The boat was lost with all hands on 9 Jan 1945 in the Gulf of Finland off Odensholm (Osmussaar), Estonia by a Soviet mine.
