Werner Schauer was born on 10 Sep 1922 in Berlin-Steglitz. He joined Crew X/1940 and was promoted to Oblt. on 1 Oct 1944.

He served as Watch Officer on the type VIIC boat U-616 from Dec 1942 to Mar 1943. He went out on 1 war patrol of 49 days with this boat.

He attended U-boat Commander's Torpedo Course 70 and a course at 3. U-boat Training Division (3 ULD) from Apr to Jun 1944. Werner Schauer served as First Watch Officer (IWO) and underwent U-boat commander sea training on the type VIIC boat U-369 from Jun to Aug 1944. No war patrols

He was assigned to AGRU-Front, 22nd Flotilla and 8. training unit (KLA) from Aug to Dec 1944.

Werner Schauer commissioned the new type XXIII boat U-2350 on 23 Dec 1944. Surrendered on 9 May 1945 at Kristiansand Süd, Norway (Waller & Niestlé, 2010). Werner Schauer was detained and freed in Jun 1947.
