The novel Perfection by Vincenzo Latronico is about exactly this and I highly recommend it. (Things: A Story of the Sixties, which inspired it, also captures this well)

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm back to taking yellow cabs more than Ubers now. They are still good in other geos, but in NYC they are fully enshittified.
Uber: “Plenty of cars 3 minutes away.” Okay, I’ll order. “Your driver is 14 minutes away.” 10 minutes later as you watch the car barely moving *away* from the pickup spot: “Your driver is 12 minutes way.” Cancel. Rinse and repeat.
