    My experience has been that academia gives you more freedom in your day-to-day at the cost of constant stress of long-term survival. Alt ac is less freedom day to day but greater long-term freedom in choosing where you want to live and work, knowing you can always change jobs etc

    I say it's largely a myth that academic jobs offer greater intellectual or time "freedom" compared to jobs outside the academy, all things considered. A myth that keeps PhDs from truly exploring their options and sometimes stuck in crap situations. What say you all?

    Why limit this to economics? I so desperately want to be able to add one "yeah, we didn't think this made any sense either" or "reviewer 2 insisted on this and we didn't have energy to fight them for another round"

    I propose that all economics journal editors allow one snarky comment in every published paper, to be inserted after acceptance. For example, footnote/endnote #6 might read like this:
