The Ancestors' Lives: Their Home Villages and Belongings

The objective of the document, prepared in both French and English for the Wendat Nation, is to describe the 12 communities in which the repatriated/rematriated Ancestors lived, and the belongings that accompanied the Ancestors when they were originally placed in their burials or ossuaries (returned to the earth in 2013). The Ancestors and their belongings had been removed from those places by various archaeologists and others at several points in the distant past and had been held at the University of Toronto and other places for many years. Both were finally reinterred during the 2013 ceremony. ASI had been asked by the Wendat Nation to document the belongings prior to their reinterment, as most had never been described in detail, if at all. Also, new details have emerged about some of these villages and ossuaries since the ceremony.
