Begegnungen I – Encounters I

This is the beginning of a collection of situations that just happen here in everyday life.

On my third day in Bershad I was recognized by 2 people in the supermarket, one of them spoke to me in German. My host family shares quite a bit on Facebook, Insta and TikTok, and since I've been around the views have been going up like crazy. It's a very strange feeling.

One of Katja's English students studies in Odessa. I joined one of her speaking classes. Over the weekend she was visiting her family in Bershad. On her first night with the family, the building next to her apartment in Odessa was hit by a drone. Even though her apartment is on the same floor she was lucky, all the windows are still intact. But above all she was lucky that she wasn't in Odessa anymore when the attack happened. The attacks are so massive that literally everyone in the country knows someone who has been affected.

We went to the theater with my host family to buy tickets for a show next week, it's a guest performance with nationally famous actors. In the room where we bought the tickets, there was a well-known musician at the time, a saxophone player. Again just because I was there, we got to hear a spontaneous concert from him, which was very impressive. In situations like that it's practically impossible to say no. Or rather, there's no point.
