solidad devlog 1

hihi everyone! this is the first devlog for my game, solidad! at the time of writing this, i've been working on the game for about 4 months, and i'm excited to share some of the progress i've made so far!

programming

in the earlier days of the project, i made somewhat of a dumb decision. i chose to remake the feel of rpgmaker rather than just outright using rpgmaker.

you may be asking, "why?" and to that, i respond with stubborness, and also the outrageous price of rpgmaker ($80). in my mind at the time it made sense, it's easier to stick with tools i already know how to use rather than spending 80 dollars for an engine that i've heard can be janky and hard to work with.

however, there are some upsides to using godot rather than rpgmaker, like the fact that i have more freedom with what i can do due to the fact that godot is more of a general purpose engine and stuff.

story

the story is partly written. i have the entirety of the 1st and 2nd chapters written, as well as the grand finale. i also have the main story beats for each chapter written.

here's a fun fact: the concept for a dream world didn't really cross my mind until earlier this month, so that's funny. oh yeah, and origianlly, the main thing that would drive the plot forward was... missing bus passes.

gameplay and art

right now, the overworld is in a state i would call playable, though i still need to finish programming the menu and i still need to make running animations.

the battle system is in a... less than ideal place right now, but there's some animation so it's not that incomplete.

i also have a draft of the trailer ready, but i need to make more gameplay to fill up the trailer with.

release plans

as i've stated before on the website, there is no current planned release date, but i plan to get at least a teaser trailer out by the end of this year.

additionally, i plan to release the game on a pay-what-you-want pricing model, so it be free if you want to get it for free.

conclusion

that's all i really have to say for now, if anything, this post was just to let the public know that solidad isn't dead and it's still being worked on.

until next time, baibai! >w<
