I’ve been redoing shadowbringers recently, and there’s something I want you to see.

I want you to look at this sandwich basket the exarch made for wol after returning from il mheg

looks delicious right ? now count each of them, if you count everything that makes 14 sandwiches

in this scene wol talks with ardbert (with the screen fading out), then goes to sleep. when they wake up we see that the whole basket is empty: this implies wol ate a basket of fourteen sandwiches in one sitting didn’t even put some on the side of later or anything do you know how hungry you’d have to be to eat fourteen sandwiches like that.

It's good and cool to give your characters a single simple, straightforward, non-urgent, super-achievable goal that shouldn't really cost anything or hurt anyone, make that the driving factor for most of their decisions, and then have the Plot do everything in its power to stop them.

Goals include but are not limited to:

Wanting to go home
Wanting people out of your house who shouldn't be there
Trying to find a reliable babysitter
Trying to deliver a letter or package
Trying to do a favor for someone
Wanting to see a specific thing, place, or kind of animal
Wanting to collect the money somebody owes you (the lower the debt the better)
Trying to win a bet
Wanting to punch a specific person in the face

This guy just wants to be free to live his own goddamn life. Stay tuned to find out how much he becomes willing to pay for his freedom because the world's too determined to deny him that.

Ugly Duckling sequel where the swan is like hey it's nobody's fault and I don't think anyone did anything wrong per se but nonetheless I did feel really alienated and depressed for most of my youth and those years do continue to affect me in the present day and their mom is like, so what you're saying is that you think I'm a failure and a bad duck.
