Arcane curation from the IndieWeb, Fediverse and Cybersecurity realms
Inscribed May 22, 2026

Welcome to volume forty-two of Scrolls, a newsletter for sharing cool stuff from the IndieWeb, Fediverse & Cybersecurity realms. This week we’re connecting on the web, enjoying the marvelous company that the Fediverse offers, and saying YIKES about the current state of infosec.

Teacher of Eyes

IndieWeb

Many people think about blogging or having a website as a very lonely act — simply publishing into the void. But there’s quite a bit of companionship and connection ready to be had if you are willing to make it happen. Sometimes all it takes is just being nice. So put your thoughts out there, make yourself available to others, and don’t give up when you find yourself in a blogging/site-having lull. You, your website, and yes, even your relationships can all grow together—on the web.

The first step to making any such connections is often discovery. How can we find folks on the web? Sometimes, you just have to go exploring — “surfing” the web if you will. Just open a up a lot of tabs, go check out random sites, click through their outbound links and see where it takes you. A good way to seed your surfing safari is to check out one of the many indie/small web indexes that have popped up. Want my latest recommendation? Go check out the Wonders of Web Weaving, a new podcast from James featuring stories from interesting website-havers across the ‘net! Episode 2 has recently been published featuring Alexandra, founder and barista at the 32-Bit Cafe. Remember to bookmark and ideally subscribe to any interesting sites you find! (Yup, RSS is still a thing in a lot of places.)

Looking to spruce up your own site and make it even more lovable? Here’s some ideas for ya this week… Start a journal, make your blog posts available via .txt, add a webring button, and/or join the Inclusive Front. Of course you always have the option of simply doing nothing and taking a break altogether. 😄

Small Web Finds and Features

Here’s a weekly dose of cool, assorted things I’ve found across the web.

Fediverse

What makes the Fediverse great? You could argue it’s the technical advantages it has over other platforms (e.g. true decentralization). But I’d say it’s all the cool and marvelous people you can find and interact with. So if you aren’t already here, it’s never too late to get started. There’s so much to see and discover. 🤗

Cybersecurity

We’re trying to secure AI, infosec is yikes. I’d rather share pixel art of plants, which everyone likes.

Garden

Thanks for reading Scrolls! Going offline now. Bye bye! 👋
