Inscribed May 1, 2026

Welcome to volume thirty-nine of Scrolls, a newsletter for sharing cool stuff from the IndieWeb, Fediverse & Cybersecurity realms. This week we chat web curation, discuss why the Fediverse matters, and give burned out tech folks a biiiig hug.

Settle in, grab a snack, get cozy, and start scrollin’!

Cozy and snacking

IndieWeb

Matthias Ott recently published the latest issue of his Own Your Web newsletter titled “Curators”. In that spirit, I wanted to share a collection of recently discovered resources for discovering even more cool stuff on the IndieWeb. In the last issue of Scrolls, I shared Bubbles—a cool new place for discovering IndieWeb content. This week, you can read Brennan’s interview with the creator of Bubbles! Let’s see, what else… We’ve got websites on old hardware, servers with personality and webrings! Remember though, when you find something you like, subscribe to it using RSS!

Love Your Weird Vibes

Here’s some ideas for cool things to do with your own site this week (you really should have one—there’s a lot of places to host!): Create a /Slashes page, create+publish a zine, aggregate all your external links, or just go tell people you have a blog! And while you’re being social, consider sending other bloggers a nice message. Who knows, you might even get some emails in return!

Small Web Finds and Features

Check out these cool IndieWeb finds from this past week!

Fediverse

In this modern age, Mastodon and the Fediverse at large have become ever more important. It’s not a perfect solution, but for those who care about digital sovereignty, free speech, censorship, the open web and hell, humanity, it’s a must-use (imo). Though it’s not the only measure of success, the more people that use it (i.e. the growth of the Fediverse), the better off we all will be—freed from the brainwashing and privacy-violating walled gardens of the big tech social platforms.

Cybersecurity

Do you work in cybersecurity? Or tech in general? Feeling burned out? Feeling like quitting? You’re not alone. 🤗
