For the first time since I started the Captain’s Log in March of 2021, I missed posting a monthly entry. Being a father of two, one of those an infant sure takes work! I’m back now though and looking to be more active on the site again.

  • Thanks to Medium’s incessant paywall, and modals about their paywall, I made the decision to remove Medium-based blogs from my Infosec Blogs list altogether. Honestly, I had wanted to do this for some time because I felt the overwhelming majority of the Medium sites I had added were low-quality or soon-abandoned. This took the overall blog count from 4163 to 3253. Though around that same time I went through all my Mastodon follows and added all of their personal blogs.

Career
  • After ~15 years in my career, I plan to take some time to reflect on this first era of my professional life and dream/plan what is in store for the next 15 years. More to come on this.
Tech
  • I’ve finally taken some time to play with Stage Manager on my iPad Pro running the latest iPad OS (v17) and WoW, coupling it with the external monitor support is a real game-changer with respect to using it as a “real computer” replacement. Since that moment, I’ve taken some time to tweak my widgets, settings and apps on my iPad and have been using it as my daily computer for a few days now. In fact, all the writing and updates I’ve done for the site have all been done exclusively only the iPad. Special shoutout to the apps Working Copy and Textastic. I plan on revisiting this post I wrote back in 2020 on blogging from my iPad with a new-and-improved version 2!
Gaming
  • I’ve been playing Super Mario Wonder (when I have the time) and it has been really delightful. Looking forward to some of the late-game content and levels!
  • We’re less than a month away from the release of the remastered Super Mario RPG. I loved this game way back when and I actually did a play through of it somewhat recently during the early days of the pandemic. I’m unsure if any of the gameplay or content will have been changed/updated but regardless, I am excited to play through it once again =).
TV
  • Loki season 2 has been great, though I am behind right now.
  • I loved Ahsoka and can’t wait for it to return for season 2!
Life
  • Spent some time in Vermont with the family recently, traveling to Burlington, Trapp Family Lodge and the surrounding area of Stowe. I now put maple syrup on everything…
