Mirrors

When they look at us, what people should always be able to see is the mirror reflection of our true selves. The good, the not-so-good. All of our strengths, all of our flaws.

I wonder how many actually see all of that. I’m going to guess not many.

Instead, the various selves that make up each of us are like bits of broken mirror in the eyes of others. Each shard is a facet of what someone else sees or chooses to see. They only glance at one or two shards. They only perceive a broken handful of facets. They only see a bits of who we really are.
