Split polyconscious refers to a system or sisasystem that is polyconscious in both front and headspace, but the streams of consciousness between front and headspace are separated.[1]

Experiences a split polyconscious system may have:

  • Headmates lose their headspace memories when entering front, then lose their fronting memories when leaving front.
  • Headmates currently in headspace are unaware of fronting headmates, and vice versa.
  • Some or all headmates are unable to move between front and headspace.
  • When a headmate enters or leaves front, they feel like they are becoming a different version of themself. This phenomenon is not better attributed to being a subsystem.
  • The line between front and headspace is distinct.
  • Switching feels like another member suddenly taking over.
  • Co-fronting feels like multiple consciousnesses pushed together.

Barriers between front and headspace are often present in split polyconscious systems, but are not required to have in order to use the term split polyconscious.

Polyconscious systems have a similar consciousness structure, but have a different distinction, or do not have a distinction, between fronting consciousness and headspace consciousness.

Split hydraconscious systems, split misaconscious systems, split monoconscious systems, and mutoconscious systems have a similar distinction between fronting consciousness and headspace consciousness.

Cephaconscious systems are polyconscious in headspace, but monoconscious in front.

Multiplexconscious systems are polyconscious in headspace, but hydraconscious in front.

Atrium Systems have memory management similar to this.
