Linux Compatibility
Openplanet for Trackmania and Maniaplanet is reported to work perfectly fine with Wine. To make it run properly, you need to add dinput8 to the list of DLL overrides. If you are using pure Wine, you can do it through winecfg under the Libraries tab, adding dinput8 so that it's listed as a "native, builtin" library, this method also works for any of the other options below.
Lutris
If you're using Lutris, you have to add the override in the "Runner options" tab of the game properties, like in this screenshot:

Bottles
If you're using Bottles, you can add it in the Bottle config by going to "Settings > DLL Overrides", add one for dinput8, and select Native, then builtin, which should be the default, as in the screenshot:

Steam
If you're playing on Steam using Proton, you'll have to follow some different steps. Right click the game in Steam and go to Properties. Select Launch Options, and type in: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command% this will make the game start with the hook ready to be loaded.
You'll need to know the AppID for the game you're installing to, for TrackMania 2020 it is 2225070, AppId's for other games can be found by right clicking the game in your Steam Library, opening Properties, and going to the Updates tab.
You will also need to know the path to the game, this can be found by going again into the game properties in Steam, going to the Installed Files tab, then hitting browse, and copying the path from your file explorer, but remember paths in Proton will have backslashes instead of forward, and will be prefixed with Z:
You might have to install the VC runtime into Proton's game wineprefix as well. To do that, you can either use Protontricks, or do something like the following:
# Change the AppID if needed
export WINEPREFIX=~/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/2225070/pfx
# Change the Proton version 5.0 if needed
export WINEPATH="~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton 5.0/dist/bin/wine64"
wine ~/Downloads/VC_redist.x64.exe
For Protontricks, you can run the following commands to run the entire installation (minus the DLL overrides)
protontricks 2225070 vcrun2022
protontricks -c "wine OpenplanetNextSetup.exe /D=Z:\$(sed 's:/:\\\\:g' <<< \$STEAM_APP_PATH)" 2225070
7z to extract installer
You can also install Openplanet by unzipping the installer, but this should be a last ditch effort if nothing else works, as this method won't install registry keys that the Openplanet installer usually sets, so your mileage may vary, and reaching out to the Troubleshooting channel in the Openplanet discord should be attempted before this.
7z x OpenplanetNext_1.29.5.exe -o GAME_DIR
Note 1: If you install the VC redist in Proton's game wineprefix, its possible you'll have to re-do it again when the game updates on Steam.
Note 2: We don't officially provide support for Linux/Wine, but we're willing to help troubleshoot if you run into any issues, and there's a small community of Linux users in the Discord server who are likely able to help.
Troubleshooting
The installer is a blank window
If when you run the Openplanet installer and it shows a blank window, this likely means you do not have libfreetype installed on your system for the freetype fonts.
Openplanet doesn't launch with the game
Ensure your Wine DLL overrides are set as described at the top of this page.
Anything else
Try sending a detailed summary of what went wrong, what you have attempted to fix it, and, if possible, your Openplanet.log, which can be found at:
# WINEPREFIX will depend on what environment the game was installed in:
# - for Bottles, it's likely ~/.local/share/bottles/bottles/BOTTLE_NAME
# - for Steam, it's, relative to the steam library root (which is likely ~/.local/share/Steam) steamapps/compatdata/2225070/pfx
# The <user> will too depend on what environment the game was installed in, for Steam and Bottles, it will be steamuser, for Lutris, it will be your Linux username
# OpenplanetNext is the dir for Trackmania (2020), for Trackmania2, it will be Openplanet4, and for TM Turbo, it is OpenplanetTurbo
