About the Western News Archive:

This site hosts the backfiles of Western News, which existed as a printed campus newspaper from 1972-2018.

This site also contains the University of Western Ontario News (1965-1971) and Western Times which ran from 1971-1972 and was combined into Western News.

Until very recently, Western News was produced with our campus community in mind. Today, its readership encompasses much broader, external audiences as well – from prospective students to alumni to government and industry partners.

An entirely digital channel since 2018, Western News now aims to tell a range of stories that showcase the university’s incredible strengths in research and teaching and demonstrates the impact Western has on the world.

Inside Western, a weekly e-newsletter, has become the university’s primary vehicle for sharing news, events and information with Western faculty and staff.

Digitization Project

The issues from 1965-2004 were digitized as part of a project by Western Libraries’ Archives and Special Collections Team. The issues from 2005-2018 were born digital.

Searching

The issues are keyword searchable. Use the searchbar in the top right to find issues including your keyword term, or use the advanced search to limit by year. Within each PDF, you can search using the magnifying glass in the top left.  Due to the limits of optical character recognition, the keyword search may miss some photo captions and non-standard fonts.

All issues digitized from the print were done on an as-is basis. Please note: There may be some tears or wrinkling in the newsprint. If you notice missing or unreadable content, please contact the Archives and Special Collections Team.
