Well I prefer mainly using the mouse. And with the toggle well if it was possible both maybe a keyboard shortcut for individual window and a toggle between layouts and toggle to turn off completely the tilling when needed i liked how komorebi handled it on windows before i switched to linux

You’ll be fine. You can try Komorebi which is an amazing Windows Tiling Manager. If you aren’t familiar with code/github..etc it’s pretty easy to set up and you can change border styles.

I was setting up my dual boot with CachyOS and hyprland but I gave up on it because like ALL of the creative programs I use and games I play run better on windows (or don't run at all on arch) Instead I got windows iot Enterprise LTSC, debloated it even more with Talon and then riced it with Komorebi, Windhawk, and a whole bunch of third party programs. Going really nice so far. Anyway, nicely drawn! :)

How do you organize your task bar?

Komorebi + Komorebi Bar + Flow Launcher (or the Power Toys one) means I can set the Taskbar to autohide and forget about it and the Start menu entirely.

Thank you for designing Komorebi, Jeezy! It's the only MS Windows tiling manager I'll use now. I believe over last few weeks I tried all the ones on Github and the MS Store It's closest to the setup I'll be using in Linux with KDE Plasma and Bismuth or Krohnkite, Sway or Wayland, but better in ways

What setup are you choosing?

I used to do 3 for game development and honestly it was all just distractions. 1 fast 27” 1440p for coding and gaming is all I need to focus. Komorebi makes it all possible with putting apps on different workspaces I can swap to instantly or tile when needed. In this age of infinite distraction, less is more.

I did enjoy powertoys fancyzones (and just overall, powertoys and sysinternals are the two groups doing everything top tier in Windows!). However I recently moved back to a tiling manager that I find pretty mature now called Komorebi, generally with various layouts. The dev is awesome, komorebi works well, and the only challenge is getting my brain used to it now :)

Komorebi Window Manager — There's a few WM's out there that work on win11 but this one is good for me, it's simple and lightweight. I just need multiple window functionality and automatic tiling. This is huge for me because windows multiple desktop features are almost good but not good enough, sluggish and no automatic tiling.

@LGUG2Z I'm still very much a newbie, so I don't think I've done anything that immediately jumps out or "wows" anyone yet. I'm also in a part of Microsoft that's much less homogeneous and runs a lot of container-based services, so folks are already more familiar with Linux in general. No one has asked a "but why" type question yet, but I have gotten a couple of questions about how "integrated" it is. Meaning like how well does komorebi handle MDI apps like Office and Visual Studio, can you mix komorebi with built-in shortcuts, etc. (my answer there is so far really good but not 100% perfect. If I can figure out some repro cases I'll file bugs 🙃). Since finding komorebi I've also adopted wpm and whkd, and am about to start playing around with kanata, so thank you for bringing this whole ecosystem together. But to answer your question more directly, I haven't been much of an evangelist yet since I'm still so new myself.

Yes! I was using glazewm until 3 days ago actually when I finally gave up trying to get it to work with yasb and also making the top bar look good. Switching was quite easy and all the shortcuts were the same and also configurable.

Windows can look really good with some effort

I think screens are configurable on komorebi but I'm not sure. Komorebi and glazewm for me were really similar but komorebi just seemed to work better with the top bar yasb.

Thank you so much. In my Linux DE, I use qtile and I was wondering if there is tiling wm similar to i3 or qtile in Windows. I tried several apps in my Windows OS and so far komorebi is the best. I think I'd stick with it going forward. BTW, I believe komorebi is the first program running in my computer, which is written in Rust :D Great job!

Can't wait to see where this goes, been dying to try Hyprland but I'm forced to use Win 11 for work and this, combined with an Arch WSL neovim setup, is the closest I've gotten to a workflow I actually enjoy. Hope we'll see manual tiling soon because I did try GlazeWM and while it's awesome in it's own right, I feel like Komorebi handles multiple displays better, heck, the only thing I'm really missing from Glaze is the little top bar.

Komorebi is actually what finally got me to switch to Arch with Awesome WM as my daily driver. That sounds like a negative, but it absolutely isn't. left windows awhile ago, but still stay subbed and watch because I love komorebi and when I was on windows, it was the closest thing to Hyprland there was. In many ways, it does a fantastic job of emphasizing the same things Hyprland does. Floating workspaces and the upcoming toggle lock will be game changers. I use Komorebi on my personal computer and normally end up having to pause it for University assignments because of my window workflow. Toggle lock will be perfect for that section of my days :)

Congratulations from china! finally komorebi has the floating window layer just like Glaze however glaze dont have window stack and auto tilling layers, glaze also has some bugs with floating windows, so i ve always use komorebic as my main wm and floating window layer works just like the final part of the puzzle, thanks for you and keep working on this beautiful programm!

Just to add, Komorebi is the one you want over GlazeWM if you want the most i3/dwm like experience on Windows. Same author also has whkd for shortcuts which is much better than AutoHotKey unless you have specific requirements.

Wow, this is the closest I've gotten to having i3 on not-Linux (even considering Fancy Zones/the built-in for Win11, and the MacOS tiling window managers I've tried). After using i3, anything else for productivity just doesn't feel right for me, although I've made do. I'm excited to dig deeper into this and to make it work for me.

Used to be a bit rougher around the edges but now most of my problems boil down to some niche app not being tiled every once in a while, which can always be fixed by contributing to the repo for application specific tiling rules. The docs are solid and it recently has received a small gui to test configurations and debug applications which dont play nicely. It takes a bit longer to get configuration up to speed because its not exactly one single program. Hotkeys are facilitated by whkd or an Autohotkey script, but thats because its built to allow other programs like status bars and application specific keyboard daemons can integrate with it. But all that also makes it a good learning experience. Not sure how to stick in this with the other points, but maintainer is really helpful with any problems.

i3wm inspired wm for Windows

I tried GlazeWM and it does what it says “technically” but there’s a lot of edge cases where it doesn’t and things just glitch out or don’t tile. Applications that don’t work well where you have to edit the configs per app etc. I settled on using Komorebi instead and it’s a lot more of “just works”, just run it and go.

Komorebi is quite good, although it has it quirks with some applications that spawn child processes. Make sure to make yourself familiar with application specific configs, there's already a whole community-driven config for that [1]. But all in all it's very beginner friendly, since it does enable you to float windows still (and pause komorebi).

I use komorebi on my computers and I rarely ever have more than 1 or 2 windows on any workspace open at once. However, to give the main reasons as to why I use Komorebi is: 1. I love the automatic tiling, even if I 99% of the time only use it to have 2 windows split. It's just such a nice feeling not having to tile windows each time you open them up. 2. It let's me set programs being tied to specific workspaces at launch, so I always get spotify and discord on the first workspace on my second monitor. Again, a nice qol feature. 3. I think komorebi's workspaces are more powerful than virtual desktops. In virtual desktops then you change the desktop for both monitors when you switch, with komorebi you only change one monitor at a time. Which allows me to for example keep a youtube video on my second monitor playing while switching between workspaces on my main monitor. These are probably the main reasons, I mention most of that in my youtube video that got linked in the thread.

Komorebi works pretty well. In the end, I felt like it's limitations were mostly at the OS level rather than the fault of the software itself (similar to tiling WM on MacOs). I think for such a thing to really work, virtual desktops need to be a first class feature of the desktop environment. For Windows/Mac, they're still kind of janky. Whereas on Linux, I can bind Win+Tab to "Previous Desktop", hold down the button, and watch the screen flick between almost as fast as the refresh rate of the monitor. It really makes a laptop, with a small screen and with no additional monitors, a high productivity environment. Which is too bad, because the REST of Linux really sucks for laptops, with all the hardware-specific tweaks needed.

@nikitonsky Dunno if that counts but i loved how simple komorebi by @LGUG2Z was, when i was on Windows. I was suprised how well it worked, while i was expecting some major issues - because Windows does Windows things - it was just super easy to set up, configure, integrate and use. That got me really hyped!

Komorebi could be better in a few ways but the whole point of it is to do as little as it can to modify how windows works so it's understandable why it's nothing like tiling WMs on linux (hyprland, i3, etc.) But that is not to say it is still pretty similar and does a good job

Testei esse komorebi que o @gutolanjoni mencionou, ele é bem próximo do i3 na verdade, principalmente a semelhança no arquivo de configuração, achei bem fácil de me adaptar vindo do i3, tem alguns conflitos com algumas keys do windows, mas ai to desabiltando.

Acho que finalmente achei um tile window manager para windows. O nome é komorebi e tem recursos bem parecidos com o i3 e cia. Os bindings são bem flexíveis e da para usar com autohotkey.

Komorebi is one of the reasons I decided to stay on Windows btw. Tiling WM is a big plus, and I'm a big fan of it - it works - unlike many other tiling WMs. Very easy to configure, love the way you can config and since I tried contributing once (if you remember the cycling layout PR) - the way you were very welcoming and even suggested/committed edits, I was even more confident of using Komorebi. This w-e I fell into @LGUG2Z Komorebi rabbit hole and I must say that I'm quite pleased with the results. The key bindings are close to what I have on Aeon+PaperWM. I also had a look at Glazr, but Komorebi seems more feature complete. The windows tiling Corsair 🏴‍☠️

Why do Linux users say Windows has no Window Mapping?

Big Linux user but I've honestly had a better experience with Komorebi than some popular WMs in Linux. People love to speak in sweeping generalities but the truth is, if you want a pleasant WM experience in windows these days, it's not really much more complicated than the amount of config required to get the vast majority of Linux DEs / WMs running the way you'd like. Which is a win for those of us who regularly use Linux and Windows and want a more cohesive set up between the two. Sure, I can pick a distro or de with the exact WM solution i want ready to roll - but with my current Lenovo laptop, every distro needs a number of hacky solutions to even get the speakers working (due to various kernel regressions). Getting that sorted each time takes longer than it now takes me to get Komorebi installed and configured on a clean debloated win 11, so this isn't a zero sum game by any means.

I'm running on a laptop with 16GB and i7-1360P. The status bar uses 0-1% CPU and about 30MB of memory. Komorebi is using 0-0.5% CPU and 17MB memory.
