Toffee

info

Butterscotch's loyal familiar. A carefree cat who loves wordplay, and usually ends their sentences with "nya".

from Syrup and the Ultimate Sweet, and a main character in Syrup 2! also stars in another piece of candy. they live outside of syrup's town in a cottage with butterscotch... their hometown is Durum (which you'll see in an upcoming game!)

toffee was originally designed to be butterscotch's minion. they were first drawn on 2/23/2015 (along with the rest of the syrup cast).

personality

they really made being a cat their whole purrsonality...

toffee is very laid-back and loves a good comedic bit. they'll go along with any joke, unless it's at butterscotch's expense... they're fiercely defensive of their master, but still like to poke fun at her themself.

they drop the puns for more serious conversations... they have trouble being vulnerable because they don't want to look weak. deep down, they're trying really hard to make up for hurting butterscotch when they were little.

more than anything, they want to live a comfortable life where they're free to obsess over their favorite idol and spend the day doing whatever they want.

relationships

FAMILY

Butterscotch (master)
they bonded as kiddos and have been together ever since. toffee acts as butterscotch's guardian, and protects her from bullies.

FRIENDLY

Syrup
takes an interest in her as butterscotch's rival... they get jealous when she's a little too friendly with butterscotch, but they develop a good friendship with syrup especially during Syrup 2. they later come to think of themself as syrup's part-time pet.
Gumdrop
toffee enjoys talking to gumdrop because she can be convinced of anything. this has caused a lot of trouble that pastille usually has to straighten out.
Pastille
finds him a little scary because he's too good with magic. they don't really get along, but put up with each other as friends-of-friends.
Mince
they have some cute events together in Syrup 2! mince is very affectionate, and toffee likes to get pets.
Barley
a fellow malt fan they meet really late into Syrup 2's story... i really wanted toffee to have an otaku pal

UNFRIENDLY

Osmanthus
used to be part of his gang when they were a kitten, but now they hate his guts!!!

MoxDonald's

they apparently make a contract with olog to get moxdonald's on the way home, then butterscotch gets mad at them for not bringing anything back for her.

The Foxy Catch

they're the captain of the S.S. Meow! they're catching the fish for the restaurant together with drop. they invite butterscotch out too and she becomes the pirate queen after salt attempts a mutiny.

Slate AU

they show up briefly in this so you get to see some of their backstory with osmanthus play out... an alternate version anyway... because slate isn't real in canon haha

anyway they defend butterscotch from osmanthus' bullying. oz sics slate on them, and slate tries to get toffee to fake getting beat up (since he's a lot bigger than them and doesn't want to hit a little kid), but toffee is so afraid that they just end up scratching him. they run away to safety with butterscotch while slate and oz start fighting amongst themselves.
