The Republic of Memory by Mahmud El Sayed: Review by Alexandra Pierce
The Republic of Memory, Mahmud El Sayed (Saga Press 978-1-66820-719-2, 480pp, $20.00, tp). Cover by Marcel Deneuve. May 2026.
Done well, a generation ship story is an extraordinary thing. How does a population cope with being cooped up for, literally, generations? Dead Weight by Hildur Knútsdóttir, translated by Mary Robinette Kowal: Review by Ian Mond
Dead Weight, Hildur Knútsdóttir, tr. Mary Robinette Kowal (Tor Nightfire, 978-1-25032-929-5, $24.95, 160pp, hc) January 2026.

Since 2020, the always-surprising Lavie Tidhar has been publishing a delightful series of short mystery stories on Reactor about a vampire detective named Judge Dee as he made his way through medieval Europe with his hapless human assistant Jonathan. Since his actual role is enforcing the four laws or Unalienable Obligations of the shadowy vampire …Read More

khōréō: Review by A.C. Wise
khōréō 5.4
The North by Subodhana Wijeyeratne in khōréō 5.4 is full of evocative descriptions as it looks at assumptions and othering. The narrator is a scribe aboard a ship hired by a merchant to hunt skolls. They’ve been told to fear Northerners their whole lives, but an encounter with a Northern ship upends their expectations.
