🔄 Using CeX as Blockbuster

Over the last year or so, I’ve been getting off subscription services. The latest being Amazon Prime.

When I say getting off subscription services, I mean that I don’t permanently pay for them. But I might still pay for them one month at a time, as and when I use them. I’ve done specific post about this:

📺 Don’t Subscribe; Buy a Pass

One of the ways I avoid paying for a streaming service for a month, is to use CeX as a Blockbuster style rental store.

There are two ways you can do this:

  1. Trade it back in

Once your done with your movie/show/game disk, you can trade it back in to CeX, so your effectively only paying the difference. If you repeat this by trading in for store credit, you’ll save even more.

  2. Take advantage of their 2 Days Goodwill return

CeX have a generous return policy that can let you rent for free:

If you are not satisfied with your purchase for any reason, we will happily refund you in vouchers within 2 days of purchase. Please note that all items must be returned in the same state/condition in which they were sold and refunds are subject to testing. This policy is offered at management discretion and can be withdrawn at any time.

For either of these, you can start by trading in some old tech for your first bit of store credit.

I’ve actually really enjoyed doing this for story focused video games where there’s not much replay value, and 4K UHD Blu-Rays – which are noticeably better quality than streaming.

As of writing this…

On the train home after catching up with a friend from uni who’s just moved up north from London. Hopefully this time it won’t be a two year gap before seeing each other again.
