Disabling new Firefox mobile tab UX

2026-01-24

The new Firefox mobile version 146 has a redesigned tab page. I think it’s quite pretty. It’s also, unfortunately, terrible. Having had the update for a week or two, I have two major complaints.

Every time I open the tab selector my phone hangs for several seconds. I have a Pixel 9 Pro, so it’s not like this is an old phone that just can’t handle new apps.

I use synced tabs less frequently, but the new UX is actually unusable for people with multiple devices. Previously it would show recent tabs at the top, by device, with collapsible device sections. Now the direction is flipped, with most recent tabs at the bottom, and the view opening there. You have to scroll past every tab to look at synced tabs from other devices.

Fortunately this new UI can be disabled in the secret debug settings.

You can enable Secret Settings by going to Settings > About Firefox and clicking on the logo a few times. In Secret Settings, scroll down and disable “Enable Tab Manager Enhancements”.

Hope they make the new UX suck less before they get rid of the option to disable it :)
