❓ What is this?

Once upon a time, there was a vibrant community of hackers that made technical demos. This demoscene had a culture of creating READMEs which (ab)used various ASCII codes to create works of art in an era before graphical displays.

These READMEs had distinct movements over time, and were influenced by the underground warez scene, where key generators and copy-protection bypassers (cracks) were distributed with these ornate READMEs and synthesized music.

I got nostalgic for those. :)
