Here is a small selection of open source contributions that I am proud of 🌈

JupyterLab

  • Make focus visible (mostly CSS)- #13415
    • Advocated and removed an accessibility anti-pattern
    • This PR demonstrates the high quality of self-review I do on every PR before asking for code review
  • Make file browser respond to focussed elements- #13577
    • I thoroughly explored keyboard interactions on every file browser in Windows, Mac, and Ubuntu, as well as web-based file browsers, such as Dropbox and Google Drive. I applied my learnings to score a major win for keyboard accessibility for JupyterLab.
  • Add checkboxes to file browser- #12299
    • This was a big deal because it was a feature blocking the release of a complete revamp of Jupyter Notebook, a document-centric interface
  • Quansight-Labs/jupyter-a11y-testing
    • This was cool because we used GitHub Actions in this GitHub repository to run accessibility tests against pull requests in other repositories, specifically JupyterLab
    • Important lesson learned: Playwright is powerful but resource-heavy and slow compared to traditional automated tests.
  • Gave a talk at JupyterCon about accessibility testing. Put a lot of care into the accessibility of both the talk and the slides (which is why I used Comic Sans and HackMD for the slides).
