Re: When it rains, and, Winter is not broken summer

I've been reading Bard's bearblog today, and noticed two interesting posts, both weather-related:

In the Winter one, he describes how winter is its own season separate from summer, and how we should try embrace the winter, and appreciate that it is a separate season to summer, not simply a worse version of it. We shouldn't really be trying our best to get up at six in the morning and go to bed at eleven at night like we do in the summer, when the dawn and dusk times facilitate this; instead, we should accept that we'll end up getting up later and going to bed earlier. We should accept that we might be slower, or not be able to travel about everywhere, or spend more time indoors, so on and so on.

In the Rain one, Bard seems acknowledge that the rain is a nuisance. It's only viewed as a positive in that it is of course environmentally essential (and, as any gardener or allotmenteer knows, it saves you a day of having to water!). It's seen as a nuisance we must deal with. We don't want to get our clothes wet, or have to run from one shelter to another, but sometimes we're forced to.

Yet, in a way, I think we should apply the same idea for Winter to Rain as well. I've at times, when it's still rather warm, yet is raining (usually around September or October) seen it has started to rain and gone specifically out for a walk. I think there is something quite pleasant in embracing the rain too, and feeling your clothes be soaked through. I wish I did it more often.

However also, of course, when I am on my way to work, and it is raining in the morning, I decide to go to the closer of the two train stations I have available, because it allows for a shorter walk, and less time being soaked. For the office, I don't want to be sitting there in soaking wet clothes. Yet I think there would be a certain virtue in also just accepting rain for what it is, and appreciating the feeling of sitting in sopping wet clothes at work.
