what led to tinydot:
- file over app philosophy
- blot.im and its dropbox-based publishing model
- apple notes, which I used as foundation for montaigne.io and alto.so
each appealed for different reasons and previously I couldn't reconcile niceties of apple notes and file based philoshopy, but with claude code and codex, we're back to the era of files. see the year in LLMs - that was the last step that made me reconsider apple notes.
apple notes is too closed to make is super useful for agents.
apple also made it easier to build dropbox-like apps with FileProvider.
so I decided to build a new website publishing system using these principles:
- files first (good for users and AI)
- bring your own editor
- utilize OS features (native file provider, drag and drop, macOS and iOS apps)
