Effy Li’s route into research has been anything but straightforward. From studying Electronic Engineering in China to working on data management at CWI, her journey has taken her across countries and disciplines. Research themes

Our fundamental research is focused on four topics: algorithms, data and intelligent systems, cryptography and security, quantum computing.

Semester programme

Our Research Semester Programme aims to create an environment in which researchers from Dutch universities can exchange ideas on specific topics on a regular basis.

Our research groups

Research at CWI is organized in 15 research groups. We conduct pioneering research in mathematics and computer science, generate new knowledge and convey it to industry and society.

Collaboration with universities

CWI considers it important to link its own scientific research to education and training at universities. Currently, more than thirty CWI researchers hold part-time appointments at nine Dutch universities.

Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) is the national research institute for mathematics and computer science in the Netherlands.

CWI conducts pioneering research in mathematics and computer science and transfers new knowledge to society and business. We focus on four areas of fundamental research: Algorithms, Data & Intelligent systems, Cryptography & Security, and Quantum Computing. CWI works closely with Dutch universities through semester programmes, joint research programs and an active exchange of scientific talent.
