I’m currently available for new design exploration / direction projects. Please drop me a line.

Research & discovery

My work has user research and experience at its core, but I avoid subscribing too rigidly to any methodology. I’m able to adapt as appropriate to each project.

I was fortunate to work with Simon under his guidance and learned so much from his process. He brings an immense amount of care to every stage of a product, from the initial idea to launch. Not only does he have an incredible attention to detail, he’s also a forward-thinking designer and the impact of his decisions are always well considered. If you want to work with someone who is wildly smart, thorough, and always thinking about the end-user, Simon is that person.

Appropriate process

I have a track record of unearthing interesting problems and leaving no stone unturned in search of appropriate, well-informed responses. I trust my experience to match the right approach to each project, and I do my best to work with the right people, ask the right questions, and respond with the most relevant ideas.

Internal R&D

I have plenty of experience starting from scratch; taking vague or barely-realised briefs in exciting problem spaces and making quick progress. If it’s too early for customer research and you want to find the edges of an idea and give it some form, I can help.

User research

I’m good with people. I believe direct research and working with those that will use what we create is key to inclusive practice and ethical products.

Key aspects of my research work include:

  • Organised and thorough generative research and insight
  • Qualitative research including ethnographic and interview-based data gathering
  • Analysis, including user personas, mental models and stories;
  • Continuous evidence gathering throughout the process

User experience design

I enjoy well-informed work and purposeful iteration. I like to devise hypothesises, test and invalidate. I’m a critical thinker, adept at finding and formalising insights. I’ve got a keen eye for possible points of failure, and I like to disprove bias. I’m not afraid to admit when I’m wrong.

Typically, my work involves some or all of the following:

  • Workshop and sprint facilitation
  • Product and feature mapping;
  • Evaluative and heuristic testing;
  • Prototyping with paper, Figma, InVision, Keynote, code, roleplay
  • Adapting to client methodologies, including customer-led agile
