The Panasonic DMP-BD84P-K is a Blu-Ray player for the TV, that can also handle DVD and CD.
Resolution: Blu-Ray is 1080p (1920x1080) so it looks so much better than DVD 480p (720x480).
DVD: When DVD disc is played, it up-converts to HD 1080p.
Size: This is a compact player, easy to fit into any small space under the TV. Dimensions (WxHxD): 245 mm x 38.5 mm x 175 mm
Remote: It is simple and small. Uses 2xAAA batteries.
HDMI-CEC: This is supported by the player, so playback controls (play/pause) and menu navigation can be done through the TV remote.
Java: There is a Java logo on the back of the player (blast from the past)! Apparently, Blu-Ray uses actual compiled Java ME bytecode stored on the disc that is executed to show the pop-up menus and other dynamic content. This is why the processor in a Blu-Ray player has to be able to run Java bytecode.
External content: There is a USB-A port at the front to hook up external storage. Filesystems supported are FAT and NTFS. It can play videos (MKV/MP4) and audio (MP3/FLAC).
Firmware: Updates to the player’s firmware can be downloaded from Panasonic Digital AV support page. The firmware file needs to be stored on a USB device, plugged into the player to update.
