How to use Creative Airwave with Ubuntu

Creative Airwave is a portable Bluetooth speaker. It can be easily paired with Ubuntu to use for playing music, radio or podcasts. Doing that is easy:

1. Check if your notebook or computer has Bluetooth support. The Bluetooth logo must be visible in the Panel in Ubuntu.

2. Turn on the Airwave. You do this by keeping the Power button pressed for 3 seconds.

3. Put the Airwave in pairing mode. You do this by keeping the Power button pressed for 5 seconds.

4. Click the Bluetooth icon in Ubuntu and turn Bluetooth on.

5. Click the Bluetooth icon and choose Set up new device. Follow the wizard and you should be able view the Airwave and connect to it. You are now paired with it.

6. You now need to choose the Airwave for the audio output. To do this click the Audio icon in the Panel and choose Sound Settings. Choose the Output tab and choose Airwave. Audio you play on your computer should now be heard on the Airwave.

7. By default, Ubuntu seems to assign the Airwave to Telephony Duplex (HSP/HFP) mode. This gives a very low volume and extremely bad sound quality on the Airwave. In the Sound Settings dialog, in the mode dropdown choose High Fidelity Playback (A2DP). Your Airwave should sound louder and really nice now.

8. That’s it! Your Airwave is working with Ubuntu. To use the Airwave next time, you just need to turn on the Airwave (no need to put it into pairing mode) and in Ubuntu click on the Bluetooth icon and choose Airwave > Connect
