About CZI
The Chan Zuckerberg Initiative was founded in 2015 by Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg to help solve some of society’s toughest challenges — from curing or preventing disease to improving education and addressing the needs of our local communities. We provide the operational support across our areas of work.

Supporting Our Work
Grants & Ventures
Through grantmaking and our venture portfolio, we invest in bold ideas that have the potential to accelerate change. Since 2015, CZI has awarded approximately $7.22 billion in grants and invested nearly $300 million in ventures whose work aligns with our values.
Local Giving
Supporting Our Communities
Mark and Priscilla support the communities where they live and work by partnering with local nonprofits, supporting local solutions, and addressing emerging needs to help these communities thrive.
CZI carries out its work through the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, LLC; the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Foundation (a 501(c)(3) private foundation); the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) at the Silicon Valley Community Foundation; and Chan Zuckerberg Initiative Advocacy, (a 501(c)(4) organization).
