Performing

I live-code now! I performed at “No Recipe”, a show were every set was improvised, both the visuals and audio. The lead up was a little nerve wracking and stressful, but the show itself went great, and everyone did amazing, and made some incredible bangers.

I’m leaning into the live coding stuff a lot now, tbh; it’s so fun, and the Boston community around it is so incredible. I split off a bunch of my socials to be centered around this stuff, all of them are “bryce.avx”:

  • Personal Music Site, all of my music, both as “bryce.avx” (includes older stuff I wrote in live-coding langs) and not. Nothing really worth putting on Bandcamp yet though, so just self-hosted.
  • Instagram
  • Mastodon, gonna try to post there about new stuff I’m learning and working on
  • YouTube, for screen recordings, maybe eventually show recordings (if I can remember to get a recording set up somehow).

Personal

Doing

I mentioned in my last update that I’ve been self hosting Jellyfin and using FinAmp on my phone. Mostly confirming that it’s still going great. Have been purchasing a lot of music through Bandcamp and Quboz, for little bit more than I would be paying for Spotify. Hearing new pop releases might be a little harder than normal, and I can’t keep up with everything, but I never really did anyway.

Listening To

  • Inferno, by Boards of Canada. This had been vaguely floating around my peripheral when it came out, but hearing it in the end credits of the Backrooms cemented the fact that I needed to get it. Definitely my favorite album from this year so far.
  • Music, Fasion, Film, by Charli xcx. I really liked Brat, and even saw her mockumentary “The Moment” earlier this year. This new album feels like a natural extension of those two. The vibes are lower key, but I still like the sound and themes. No One Lasts Forever hits hard.
  • Tako Tsubo, by L’Impératrice. Super funky and groovy. I’d heard some of their later stuff with Maggie Rodgers, but hadn’t istened through this whole album until recently.

Reading

  • I finished House of Leaves. It somehow is still growing on me. I might want to re-read it again.
  • “The Queen of the Damned”, the third book in the “Interview with a Vampire” series. A great find in a bag of 40 paperbacks I got for $20 a few years back. I haven’t even ready any of the other books in the series, but it didn’t matter and this book was still so good, superbly written, with such interesting characters. Makes we want to read the other books in the series.
  • I joined a book club, and they’ve got great taste and are great at discussing books. Read:
    • The Employees, Olga Ravn: Sci-fi fill-in-the-gap reading, very poetic at times.
    • The Hour of the Star, Clarice Lispector: wasn’t my cup of tea, but had the most interesting discussion about it.

Watching

  • Backrooms: I hadn’t seen any of Kane Parson’s earlier videos, or really cared about the Backrooms as a concept. It just seemed like an interesting concept after finishing House of Leaves. This movie is truely great IMO, in its story telling, its film-making, and its themes. I’m just gonna keep thinking about it again and again.
  • If I Had Legs I’d Kick You: Great movie, never watching it again.

Gaming

Not really playing that much this year. Replayed SSX: On Tour, my first (and only) introduction to the snowboarding series on the Gamecube, it was pretty fun, and also replayed Zoobminis, a silly kids game from my childhood, with some neat logic puzzles (not worth playing as an adult though, lol).

Work Stuff

Not really much new here that I want to talk about. Same old, same old.
