Whistling past the graveyard
It seems strange that during a time when so many words from artificial intelligence are being published online that now is when I feel the need to write more than ever. But then again, maybe it's not.
I know that personally, with all of the bloat floating around the web, right now I'm enjoying reading things that I know for certain come from a person's head and fingertips – not from a prompt (threw in an em dash there just to keep your head on a swivel).
Don't get me wrong, I write because I see and find value simply in the experience of doing it (an Atelic activity, as Oliver Burkeman calls it in Four Thousand Weeks). But I also think that I'm writing more because in a weird way, I'm trying to give something back.
Even if all I'm really doing is pissing in the wind on that front.
