The Possum Den

You are the oxygen sustaining me and oxidizing my cells to tumors in the same breath, You are a loud static interrupting my sine wave of safety, rattling the walls I find myself so thoroughly sequestered in. You’re horridly magnetic, pulling my ferrous frame against your own. I meld to you, filling over every smooth and jagged edge, mirroring every movement. Where is my form? I’ve lost it in pursuit of something I can’t recall. By the time you leave, I’m left a puddle, attempting to coagulate back into something I can bring myself to recognize.

A wheel revolves and returns to its origin, form returns to the formless, and a sine wave pierces through the cacophony and silences the sirens. the cycle can begin again. Like telomeres, something is taken away from me with each division.

But there’s light shining through the frosted glass. I see faceless figures dancing and moving, congregating amongst themselves, bringing forth connections in a tongue I cannot speak. When I stop and listen closely, the static seemingly melts into an orchestra, all playing together with the guidance of an invisible conductor. A rhythm begins to take hold.

And perhaps these walls were never anything more than a cocoon, perhaps the light won’t be so blinding anymore. I will lay bare my colors to the world, every intricate pattern that permeates my being will tell my story to all who see.

Whole and solidified, honest and forthright. I will march forward into the blinding horizon, knowing my eyes will adjust, and that each footfall will land on solid ground.
