Toast of the Posts - Junited 2026 Edition
This month's Toast of the Posts is kinda different. Recently I was made aware of Junited, a month long show-and-tell of cool blog posts from across the indie web/blogosphere. I've been exposed to several new blogs that I would have never known of otherwise! And while I usually wait until the end of the month to do my Toast of the Posts post, it would be a little against the ethos of Junited to save all my cool links 'til then.
So rather than doing my Toast of the Posts at the end of the month, I'm going to post this now with plans to keep updating throughout the rest of June. Bring on the links!
Read Me (To Filth) - Doom Patrol, Kate Godwin, and the Birth of Trans Realism
Jack's WebZone - The Millennial Cliff
- Maybe, just maybe, we're finally reaching the end of the big-budget reboots of 80s/90s franchises. One can only hope... and I say this as someone these reboots are supposed to cater to.
Ragman - Animorphs: The Reread
- Animorphs has had a lasting impact on my life since the mid 90s, and I've been wanted to reread them for years but I'm afraid they don't hold up. Thankfully, it sounds like they do!
Tiny Wanderer - how to make a static site with hugo for neocities
Wavebeem - Mina the Hollower is the Hollow Knight of Zelda (derogatory)
Ponett Gazette - I love Mina the Hollower's weird difficulty curve
Yee Chie's Corner - Vivaldi (Chrome) ruining website colors
Quailblog - Spirit Crossing's AI Problem
Read Flag - So, I found out I was clickbait content
Oopsiedoodle - I Want to Believe
- Losing a favorite pen/pencil is such a weirdly harsh blow. It's losing a tool and a friend.
The Game Boy Abyss - Spider-Man (2002) - The Joy of Swinging
- MAN that behind the back animation of 2D Spidey swingin' through a 3D world looks so good.
Lizstar's Trashcan - X-Men Deep Dive Reading
- Pre-Clermont X-Men is a tough sell for anyone getting into Western superhero comics, but I love that Liz is dipping a toe in the water to see how things go!
AetherAnne - How to Display Footnotes on Hover Without JavaScript
Laura Michet - I visited the Earthship Welcome Center in Taos, New Mexico
Orkish Odyssey - Everywhere is England
- This post reminds me of the Dungeon World game I ran a handful of years ago in a Middle East-inspired world. It was a little more Agrabah than any real location, but it was fun to do something more than the usual "and then you meet the elves in the forest" kinda thing.
Tadaima - The 2-Year Apartment Rule
- Y'know, maybe she's on to something... the longest I ever stayed in an apartment was for four years, and that was absolutely two years too long.
Nixon Computer - GAME CLEAR No. 297 -- Punch Out!! (1984)
Kimimi The Game-Eating She-Monster - Sonic Adventure: Three minutes of success
Virtual Moose - Itch.io Summer Sale 2026 Recommendations
Here are some more cool non-blog things I found this month online!
- The Condiment Packet Archive is exactly what it sounds like-- an archive of fast food (usually) sauce (usually) packets.
- Perfect for anyone that wants to see a movie on the big screen, but doesn't want to deal with other moviegoers.
Evolution of Evony Video Game Ads
- Okay, this is a blog post, but quite an old one. I was thinking about the old Evony "play discreetly!" ads earlier and it's wild to see the ads go from "knight in a full suit of armor" to "fuck it, here's a stock photo of boobs, click 'em".
