Founded in 2013 as Bethel Community Transformation Center (BCTC), and officially renamed The REC Detroit on January 1, 2026, our work began with a simple but powerful vision: to foster reconciliation, healing, and stronger community relationships.
What started as a small, committed group has grown into a dynamic, interfaith and community-centered hub serving Detroit’s North End through education, arts, wellness, and economic opportunity.
Today, The REC Detroit continues to bring together community leaders, partners, and volunteers to build a more just, connected, and thriving community—honoring the legacy of our historic space while creating new pathways for transformation and impact.
