Hyperlink Roundup 05

Another early morning for me which means make coffee and create the next Hyperlink Roundup. I've found several interesting links from my previous week of surfing the information superhighway. I dabbled with Linux Mint on an old Thinkpad P51 that I recently received for free and was pleasantly surprised at how much it has improved. It really is an easy to use linux distro. It is nice to have another spare laptop for linux again.

A little piece of retro information I learned the other day. Did you know that in the 1990 movie Pretty Woman, Porsche and Ferrari were approached to have their cars in the movie but because of the character Julia Roberts plays, they refused. This is the reason a Lotus Esprit is the car she drives with Richard Gere. You can use that as an opener at your next social event. You're welcome.

Build your own UFO boat

Here is a YouTube video of a man building his own UFO boat that works too. Watch how he enters the boat as the doors automatically slide open like a real spaceship. This thing is beautiful and fast. It looks like a spaceship hovering over the water.

A desktop for your childhood home's computer room

Blue95 is a modern and lightweight desktop experience that is reminiscent of a bygone era of computing. Based on Fedora Atomic Xfce with the Chicago95 theme. This sure brings back memories.

Blogging in the past

I liked this paragraph, it pretty much sums up how it is today.

"I think of this now as the difference between living in a house you built that requires some effort to visit and going into a town square where there are not particularly rigorous laws about whether or not someone can punch you in the face. Before social media, if someone wanted to engage with you, they had to come to your house and be civil before you’d give them the time of day or let them in. And if they wanted you to engage with them, they’d have to make their own house compelling enough that you’d want to visit. "
