Hashtags in profiles
Reading profiles on Mastodon or other sites many individuals use hashtags. I add hashtags in my profile to describe my interests and use as a shortcut to a feed. There was one hashtag that confused me in my profile and it was #technology.
My interest in technology has changed over the years. Retrocomputing is a much bigger part of me now along with other interests. Current technology as I see it, is not of any interest so I deleted it from my profile.
Clicking that hashtag brings a garbage of news, AI and other boring topics. It is similar to other hashtags like Apple. It is filled with posts that have no interest to me. I seem to enjoy the retro hashtags like retrocomputers, retrocomputing, retrogaming and the vintage hashtags that follow the same topics I listed.
These hashtag feeds are filled with not only 80s and 90s memories but also early 2000 thru 2010. Once the social networks showed up, there really isn't much left of technology as we knew it. Some manufacturers like Sony have stopped making computers and in other parts of the world stopped selling phones and music players. We lost many cool companies.

Deleting a hashtag seems to be a life changing moment. Interests commonly carry on with one's life as they grow, well most do and you pick up a couple of new ones. But to remove an interest hashtag that has been with you for decades is a big thing. When I removed #technology it felt like it was the right time. I don't feel good even reading the category on a news site, nor do I learn anything new from it any longer.
Remember removing an interest or hobby makes room in your life for a new one.
