Goodbye Mastodon
It was time to say goodbye to Mastodon.
I woke up this morning to read my rss feeds over coffee. I started reading a blog post about drama happening again on Mastodon. This time it was my own instance of Fosstodon. I was shocked to say the least.
I don't want to get into the details here (very easy to find via search) but when I saw the OG administrators call it quits, I knew it must have been awful. The Mastodon community can be toxic at times canceling individuals for various reasons. Even though someone new is taking over, they will need a new team of moderators and luck to keep it going. I wish them the best of luck but the Mastodon community can be harsh and hold grudges.
I didn't want to search for a new home, I don't want to run my own or migrate to another instance. I knew I was done with any social network. The world has changed and I'm done. People in the real world are not this toxic. Mastodon used to be a welcoming place for anyone finding a new home after leaving Twitter but just like anywhere else, humans will eventually ruin it.
I want to enjoy whatever time I have left on this earth offline and enjoy nature. I will miss the good people I met there but will keep in contact with some through their blogs. Be good to each other and listen to understand each other.
