Switching from WordPress to Kirby

4 March 2024

A week ago, I set up this blog using WordPress - and yesterday I switched to Kirby. But to be clear, this has nothing to do with the recent stories about Automattic selling user data to AI companies (although I do have thoughts on that which I will post about at some point).

I started building this blog about a year ago using Kirby, but I was learning as I was going and I was never happy that everything was quite right. I just wanted to get blogging, so last weekend I decided to go with what I know, and that's why I set up the site using WordPress.

The plan was to use WordPress for a month or two and then switch to Kirby. But as soon as the site was online it somehow took away the pressure to make things perfect. On Sunday evening I spent a couple of hours finishing the Kirby site and then set it live.

If you're thinking about blogging but you're paralysed by choice, my advice is to just pick whatever option is easiest and get writing. There is definitely power in just getting started.
