How You Spend Your Days
The last time I posted here was at the start of the school summer break and we'd just returned from holiday. I could say - I can't believe how long it's been since I last posted here - but that wouldn't be true. I chose not to.
There are only so many things that any one person can do in a single day, and we need to choose those things wisely. At the start of the summer I made some deliberate choices about how I would spend my time.
I have one child, a daughter, and she recently became a teenager. I'm very conscious that the day will soon come when she won't want to hang out with me - or at least not as often. Until then I'm taking every opportunity that I can to spend time with her, and this summer was great for that. That's one more summer of memories that we both have.
I've mentioned before that my mum lives in a care home and I have a lot of responsibilities for her. She has had masses of stuff in storage, and we've been sorting it on and off for the past three years. I was determined that this was the year it would be finished. I've been busy sorting, re-packing, selling, donating and recycling and last week I moved the remaining stuff from a 225 square foot storage unit to a 40 sq foot one. Mission accomplished.
Inspired by that, we've also taken the opportunity to have a clear out at home. Again, that has meant lots of sorting, selling and donating. We were surprised how little we got rid of, but how reorganising it gave us so much more space. We need to keep on top of that.
I've also remained busy at work. The main project I worked on over the summer has involved a lot of writing, and so the last thing I wanted to do at the end of each day was spend more time writing! The plus side of that, is I've been getting back into guitar although I'm still not putting enough focus there.
I feel like this has been a great year so far, and I'm really happy with how and where I've been spending my time.
