Conjugate French Verbs
Free · Designed for iPad. Not verified for macOS.
Conjuguer is an app for learning French verb conjugations. Conjuguer conjugates 5,222 regular French verbs and 1,098 irregular French verbs in _all_ tenses. Every French verb has at least one English translation. In fact, réaliser has eight! The Conjugation Tutor answers your questions about French verbs and tenses in plain language and remembers your conversation between visits. Powered by Apple Intelligence, it runs entirely on your device and requires a device that supports Apple Intelligence. Nearly a thousand of the most common verbs come with an etymology tracing the verb’s origins, from Latin and Frankish roots to the modern French you use today. More than 1,100 verbs show an example sentence, with English translation, drawn from real, properly sourced writing: Proust, Zola, Flaubert, La Fontaine, Molière, the “Chanson de Roland”, French and Swiss public documents, and Wikipedia. Every source is credited on the Info tab. Conjuguer reaches beyond the app. A Verb of the Day widget brings a daily verb and its présent conjugations to your Home Screen and Lock Screen, a quiz widget lets you answer a question without opening the app, Control Center can start a quiz or open a random verb, and a Live Activity follows an in-progress quiz from the Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. Every tense is fully described, with sample uses from the classics of French literature, including “La chanson de Roland” and “À la recherche du temps perdu”. Conjuguer has _full_ conjugations for seventy-seven defective French verbs, including exotic ones like ester, issir, and gésir. Conjuguer has frequency-of-use rankings for the top 981 French verbs, from être to ancrer. These rankings can help focus vocabulary study. Conjuguer includes a quiz mode for gamifying study. Quiz results are available in Game Center™. For a change of pace, a family-friendly, France-themed Arc de Triomphe arcade game is tucked into the Settings screen, complete with power-ups, music, and haptics.

Version 2.1 fixes a bug that could leave Conjuguer silent and makes the verb and model lists easier to use one-handed. Sound effects could stop playing until the app was relaunched. iOS occasionally restarts the audio system it shares with every app, and it can hand the audio session back after a phone call or a Siri interruption. Conjuguer did not notice either event, so quizzes and the arcade game could fall silent for no apparent reason. The app now watches for both and rebuilds its audio on its own, so sound comes back without a relaunch. On iPhone, the sort control on the Verbs and Models tabs has moved from the top of the screen to the bottom, a thumb's reach from the tab bar rather than a screen away. On iPad it stays above the grid, where it reads as a filter over the verbs and models it governs. The Verbs tab now tells you how many verbs match your search. Rows on both tabs have been tidied up, and a verb's frequency rank is now set in a rounded badge.
