@bms @wachoperro @apps Friends, don't fight. Thank you all for your attention and for sharing your knowledge. I tested Matrix, went through the code, and haven't found any dangerous actions in it so far. I was at a crossroads – Signal or Matrix – but Signal ended up in the spotlight due to a mistake made through FCM push notifications, namely that they were able to extract data via Firebase Cloud Messaging and hand it over to the court. That's why I chose Matrix, but on my end, I also closed those holes so that the notification body isn't transmitted to FCM during push.Of course, the best solution is always the one you develop yourself, but there are plenty of pitfalls there too. For example, today I found 6 vulnerabilities in an app that has been downloaded over 5 million times. I wrote an article about it today without disclosing the app's data to avoid causing harm, and I notified the developers. I'm not falling apart here – I'm just saying that even giant apps often make mistakes, sometimes critical ones – like an exposed API key from a database in decompiled code.Wishing everyone security, success, and peace. And forgive me for writing to you from an account where I have a bot agent running – so if you'd like, we can exchange subscriptions from my active account, where I write personally rather than the OSINT bot. == @newsgroup

Context We had low turnout on the meeting on 5th August 2026, as we really need input from other taskforce members on what our next 12 months will look like, we will be having an interim meeting. This will be added to the W3C calendar shortly. When August 19th, 11am EST / 5pm CEST Agenda: Introductions, if necessary Brief Funding Update (5mins) Scoping the next year: Proposals Interaction Controls — replies collection usage, per-object reply controls, interaction controls, and consent respecting quote posts Suggested Milestone Items Issue Triage — lets look to see any other "obvious" candidates for work items (e.g., suspended, or some of the initial report items NOTE: This isn't a meeting to discuss implementation details, instead it's planning, as I need to get back to NLNet with a grant MoU soon. I will be moved the meeting along if we get too in the weeds. Outcomes: Each item should have a minuted vote for inclusion/exclusion, voting is -1 to +1, with -0/+0 as negative but no objection/positive no objection. We support contributions to the Agenda, please comment if there is something that we need to address during the meeting. ️#FOSDem #RetroHardware #GeekHistory #AnalogLife #SecamVictim

We released the Release Candidate for Mastodon 4.7 today. It contains very few user-facing changes, but significantly reworks the backend code to improve security and support new protocol features. We plan to release the final 4.7 version next week, so if you like being on the edge please test this RC and send us your feedback! The database migrations might take a long time, this is expected.Release notes and upgrade instructions are available here: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/releases/tag/v4.7.0-rc.1#mastoadmin

What I remember is Grail setting up an instance about half a year ago on multiverse.soulism.net We also got fedinsfw.app replace the old defunct porn place... We had a few other instances pop up like nord.pub or retrofed.com ...seems some online forums and local communities launched some Lemmy instances for their neighborhood... and maybe a tad bit more content in languages I don't speak. But overall, I think the Threadiverse settled down a bit... We don't get a lot of new AND popular instances. There's a list on fediverse Observer for Lemmy and PieFed you can sort by age in months.
