What's Qtractor ?

Qtractor is an Audio/MIDI multi-track sequencer application written in C++ with the Qt framework. Target platform is Linux, where the Jack Audio Connection Kit (JACK) for audio, and the Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) for MIDI, are the main infrastructures to evolve as a fairly-featured Linux desktop audio workstation GUI, specially dedicated to the personal home-studio.

Qtractor is free, open-source software, distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL) version 2 or later.

Qtractor's already in some kind of beta stage of development and hence fully functional. Though, the bleeding-edge development source tree is readily available from the sourceforge's public Git repository.

  • Warn about the danger in changing the MIDI clip file in the MIDI Clip Editor's File/Properties... dialog.
  • Also send MIDI Hold pedal off (CC#64) on Transport/Panic.
  • Plugins are now added/inserted before the current selected one or appended to the list as before if none is actually selected.
  • Show tool-tip when turning the mouse-wheel over a direct-access plugin parameter value slide. Shift/Ctrl+mouse-wheel modifiers now differing as coarse/fine direct-access adjustments resp.
  • Fix MIDI Controller (un)mapping on tool-tips and whether it's currently (un)mapped on the respective (un)checked context-menu entry.
  • Optionally reset a previously selected/saved LV2 Plug-in UI type when View/Options.../Plugins/Editor (GUI)/Select plugin's editor type if more than one are available option is turned off.
  • New user preference option introduced (cf. View/Options.../ Plugins/Editor (GUI)/Keep plugin editors always on top).
  • Fixed crash when selecting the "Don't ask this again" option on some message-box prompts.
  • Updated to CLAP v1.2.9

Installation

Unpack the tarball and in the extracted source directory:

cmake [-DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=prefix] -B build

cmake --build build [--parallel Njobs]

and optionally as root:

[sudo] cmake --install build

Note that the default installation path prefix is /usr/local .

Configuration

Qtractor holds its settings and configuration state per user, in a file located as $HOME/.config/rncbc.org/Qtractor.conf. Normally, there's no need to edit this file, as it is recreated and rewritten everytime qtractor is run.

Bugs

Plenty still, however Qtractor may be considered in production/stable phase already.
