Hey all,
It looks like it’s been about 4 months since the last update, so I wanted to let you all know what’s been happening lately.

As I mentioned in the last update, both Sudokid and myself were having “life issues”, and things have definitely gotten interesting in the last while. I will only speak for myself as always… I finally went in for my elective nasal surgery on October 20th. I’ve had a deviated septum my whole life and not ever been able to breathe out of my right nostril as a result. I didn’t think much of it until around 2018 when I noticed my energy levels plummet. Long story short, I was tested at the UBC Sleep clinic and they found I have the worst sleep apnea they’ve ever seen -which is scary for a clinic that specialises in these things to tell you. The surgery that I had on October 20th was to fix my issues, and it was apparently a great success. I say apparently because I’m still in the early recovery period, so it hasn’t yet led to me being able to fully breathe out of my nose, but I can say that my right nostril functions now when there isn’t a bunch of gunk blocking it from the inside (which happens multiple times daily at the moment). Regardless, I’m on the mend, so I’m excited to see how much of an improvement this has on my energy levels by this time next year.

As for L.A.P.D. 2195. Sudokid (programmer) is still working through his “life issues” at the moment, so we’re not able to make as much progress on the project as I’d like. To that end, I decided to start working on a smaller side-project on my own with the hope to release it relatively soon (Early Access in Summer 2026 maybe?). The idea being that maybe I can make enough money from selling that game to start hiring some freelancers to work on L.A.P.D. 2195 with us. I’ve actually been working with some artists on fiverr recently, and I’ll hopefully have something to show you in the next newsletter, so definitely stay tuned.

So what is this great new side-project you say? Well, I’m glad you asked (I’m going to pretend you asked):

I’m not sure if there’s going to be much overlap between fan bases, but one of my other favorite games from the PS One era which I feel has been equally ignored was the Jet Moto series. I’ve been a huge racing game fan my whole life, and I actually started working on a Jet Moto spiritual successor before I started L.A.P.D. 2195. It took me somewhere around 6 months to put together the first prototype, and about 3 months to build the single racing track that I made for it.
Here’s a link to the original playable prototype for those interested: https://apeirogon-games.itch.io/hoverbike-prototype-01

I stopped working on the project when I realized that if it was going to take me 3 months per track that meant it would take me 2.5 years to get the game to a releaseable state with only 10 tracks. This time around though, I’ve got a much better plan…

There are a few things that will make this version of the game better and more achieveable than my original incarnation. Firstly, instead of building completely bespoke tracks as I did with the original prototype, I’m going to be making track modules. This means that I’m building out various sections of the track on 400mx400m cubes, each like a miniature diorama. These cubes can then be assembled in pretty much any order for a huge variety of track designs per theme.

The current theme is Winter, mostly because I have a love/hate relationship with the Winter tracks from the original Jet Moto. I’m talking about you “Ice Crusher”.

The other cool thing about the track modules is they will allow me to make a really easy to use track editor for the game to allow for player-made tracks. This also helps to alleviate my initial concern of only having a handful of tracks on release. Add to this the fact that I’m 98% confident that I’ll be able to implement a multiplayer game mode, and you’ll understand why I’m much more confident with this version.

I’m shifting L.A.P.D. 2195 to the back burner while I work on G-Moto in hopes to bring in some more money to put back into the project. It’s not going away in the long term though, just until life stops kicking both myself and Sudokid. I’m still working with the occasional freelancer on fiverr for things like animations etc. for the new mech design, and you should see some of that in the next newsletter. Hopefully some of you will be equally excited for a Jet Moto spiritual successor in the meantime.

Thanks again to everyone for your continued support and understanding.

-Peter
