Facet proposes EIP-8182 for private transfers in Ethereum upgrade

Facet co-founder Tom Lehman has proposed EIP-8182 for inclusion in Ethereum’s Hegota upgrade, aiming to enable native private transfers of ETH and ERC-20 tokens.

The proposal introduces a protocol-level shielded pool built on a UTXO-based design, removing the need for admin keys or pause controls, while allowing transfers to standard Ethereum addresses and ENS names without requiring a separate privacy format.

MoonPay enables crypto purchases inside ChatGPT

MoonPay launched a ChatGPT app that allows users to generate crypto purchase links directly within the chatbot for Bitcoin, XRP, Ethereum, Solana, USDC, and more than 100 other assets across 30+ chains with multiple payment options. Financial information is handled directly through MoonPay’s platform, while ChatGPT is only used to generate the purchase link. MoonPay also manages KYC and payment processing separately.

It’s the first and only crypto on-ramp embedded in OpenAI’s platform. The launch is part of MoonPay’s broader AI push, the company recently acquired AI trading startup Dawn Labs, launched Dawn CLI, and introduced the MoonAgents Card, a virtual Mastercard letting AI agents spend stablecoins at online merchants.

Tether plans GELT stablecoin tied to Georgian lari

Tether plans to launch GELT, a stablecoin pegged to the Georgian lari, developed alongside the Georgian government and National Bank of Georgia. It operates under a private-public model with central bank oversight, and Georgia’s March 2026 regulatory framework already requires 100% reserve backing and prior central bank consent for stablecoin issuers.

Georgia also built its stablecoin rules to align with the U.S. GENIUS Act, making it one of the earliest countries pursuing regulatory compatibility with Washington’s digital asset framework. GELT extends Tether’s multi-currency lineup alongside MXNT.

U.S. Congress opens insider trading probe into Polymarket and Kalshi

Polymarket and Kalshi are under investigation by the House Oversight Committee over concerns tied to potential misuse of non-public information. Chair James Comer is requesting internal records from both platforms’ leadership, with lawmakers also considering rules that could restrict government officials from participating in prediction markets.

The probe was triggered by two specific incidents: a U.S. Army soldier charged in April for using classified information to net roughly $400,000 on Polymarket, the first-ever criminal indictment tied to prediction market trades on classified data, and a New York Times investigation finding over 80 Polymarket users placing suspicious trades hours before U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran.

OKX launches oil perps with ICE partnership

OKX and Intercontinental Exchange are introducing perpetual contracts tied to Brent Crude and WTI oil benchmarks.

The launch is a direct response to Hyperliquid‘s dominance in commodity perps, with its oil futures generating roughly $1.6B in daily volume and $1.3B in open interest. Binance launched WTI, Brent, and natural gas perps in April with Bybit following shortly after, making oil derivatives one of the fastest-growing product categories in crypto right now.
