We went up the hill to Boleigh Farm, where our friends the Eddy brothers, and their family before them, have been for generations. The Pipers, prehistoric standing stones, are to be found in these ancient spaces: and on the other side of the road, the stone circle known as the Merry Maidens. (The story being, that the Pipers piped, the Maidens danced, and at some stage or for some reason, they wereall turned to stone).
At the very last minute, before we left the house, an angel from Mount Olympus, designed as a delivery-lady from Redruth, brought the spectacles I’d bought via AMAZON, which enabled us to view the Phenomenon. There were so many of these useful specs, with their cardboard frames that I was able to distribute them to the Foolish Virgins who had not come equipped.
By the time we reached the Pipers, there was a small crowd, some known to us, some not. ‘Didn’t you realize who that was?’ Ruth asked me when we were on our way home. ‘Who? What?’ I asked. ‘The woman who said hello, I’m Kate? ‘Well, I assumed it was someone called Kate’. ‘It was Kate
