For the first episode of Antidote Inside — our new series profiling the founders building on Bitcoin out of Hatton Garden, London — we sat down with João Lobo, the Portuguese developer and entrepreneur behind Rexmo and its consumer-facing product, Kute (pronounced “cute”).
João’s path to Bitcoin wasn’t a straight line. He grew up in Porto, sold wine in Brazil, ran the Australian market for Sweatcoin in London, taught himself to code in Amsterdam, and then spent years as a developer at a gambling company in Gibraltar. Along the way, he first heard about Bitcoin in 2013 on 4chan — dismissed it as a scam — and didn’t buy any until 2019. “It was just make money back then,” he admitted. But the deeper he went, the more he understood what he was really looking at. “I discovered that it was really, really revolutionary technology. I got hooked and decided that was the only way I wanted to dedicate my working life.”
That conviction led him to Satsails, a non-custodial Bitcoin wallet connected to a Brazilian stablecoin, where he built the entire product from scratch and saw real swap volume. Now, with Rexmo, he’s taking everything he learned and aiming far higher.
Kute is a non-custodial Bitcoin wallet that speaks to all of crypto. On the savings side, it supports hardware wallet connections via Bluetooth or air-gapped transactions for Ledger, Blockstream Jade, Coldcard, and Passport. It even lets you turn an old phone into a hardware signer using its built-in secure element. On the spending side, there’s a hot wallet with both Lightning and on-chain support, Lightning addresses, and seamless cross-chain swaps. Users can send Solana, ETH, or stablecoins into the wallet and receive Bitcoin automatically — without ever holding an altcoin.
It’s a strategy João describes simply: “Many people hold other coins. We want them to switch to Bitcoin, which is much better.” Think of it as a vampire attack on the rest of crypto — support every competitor’s token, but funnel everything into BTC.
The real differentiator, though, is prediction markets. Kute is the first wallet to integrate Polymarket directly from a Lightning balance. Users can place predictions on real-world events — politics, sports, economics — and the conversion between sats and USDC happens invisibly under the hood. Payouts land back in your wallet as sats. “You as a user can actually have fun on the wallet as well,” João said. And because Kute curates which markets appear, they’re filtering out the most degenerate five-minute bets in favour of events that are actually interesting to follow.
The longer-term vision is bigger still. João wants Kute to become what Revolut is for fiat — but for Bitcoin. That means tokenised stocks via Hyperliquid (invest at midnight on a Sunday, withdraw to your hardware wallet), full banking integration with IBAN and sort code, salary deposits, Apple Pay spending, and one-tap conversion to self-custody. All of it Bitcoin-first, all of it in one app.
The business model is clean: everything Bitcoin-native is free — you just pay network fees. Revenue comes from a small spread on cross-chain swaps and Polymarket conversions. João already proved this model works at Satsails, where USDT swap volume in Brazil generated real income.
On the target market, João is going after Gen Z — “the most dispossessed in the current world” — and notably, both men and women. “Most of the apps have dark modes. They’re very masculine-oriented. We want to sell a product that works for both.” The brand, the name, even the logo (a dog in a bandana) are all designed to feel approachable to people who’ve never touched a Bitcoin wallet before.
